API’s Jack Gerard announced a new PwC study on the economic impacts of the oil and natural gas industry in 2011, the most recent year for which comprehensive data is available. 

During a conference call with reports, Gerard noted that in 2011 the industry supported more than 9.8 million jobs – that’s 600,000 more jobs than it supported just two years earlier. Gerard:

“The PwC report confirms what we already know: America’s 21st century energy revolution is driving our resurgent economy.”

Los Angeles Times – Air Force Considers Vandenberg Leases for Offshore Drilling
The newspaper reports land on the air force base located on the central California coast could be leased for offshore “slant drilling.” An Air Force spokesman tells the Times: “Initial information obtained by the Air Force indicates there may be potential for new technology slant drilling capable of targeting oil deposits off Vandenberg Air Force Base’s coastline from locations with minimal or mitigable mission/environmental impacts.”

From time to time, a few politicians get the not-so-bright idea to try to repeal the tax deduction for intangible drilling cost (IDCs). A new study out today from Wood Mackenzie shows what would happen if this cost recovery measure was repealed effective January 1, 2014.
