A new report from AAA compares different types of engine oils, but there’s one important thing to remember: check your owner’s manual before switching motor oils.
Consumers must consult their owner's manual to see which SAE viscosity grade and performance level is recommended for their vehicle's engine. Manufacturers often recommend oils licensed by API as these oils have been rigorously tested to prove they meet API's engine oil standards and ensure that consumers get the high-quality oil demanded by today’s engines. Not all vehicles require the same level of performance or viscosity grade.

A barrel of crude oil or petroleum product shipped by pipeline is safely delivered to its destination more than 99.999 percent of the time, but the industry’s objective remains: zero releases, zero incidents.
Toward that goal, API has just released a new standard to guide operators in the development of a systems approach to safety management – helping them to continuously evaluate their efforts and constantly improve safety. API Midstream Director Robin Rorick:
“Pipelines are safe and efficient, but we are always looking for new ways to make them better, which is why industry is embracing this new standard. It’s also a great example of what can be done when industry, regulators and all key stakeholders work together to achieve a common objective, which is to protect the public, the environment and provide the fuels Americans need.”

America’s dramatic increase in domestic energy production has fundamentally altered the global energy markets and more broadly the geopolitical landscape for decades to come – all while providing a much needed boost to our economy.
In order to achieve our nation’s full potential as a global energy leader all of us have to work together to ensure that our energy infrastructure is capable of safely, reliably and efficiently transporting ever-increasing amounts of domestically produced energy, whether by truck, barge, pipeline, or the focus of today’s hearing, rail.

A recent University of Texas poll points up an interesting disconnect in Americans: While more than 80 percent of those surveyed said they support natural gas development, they’re much less enthusiastic about the process that has made possible America’s energy resurgence: hydraulic fracturing. ...
No doubt, this results from misinformation and confusion spread by opponents of natural gas development. By its nature scaremongering attracts attention, and the poll indicates many Americans need more information about the process that has made possible the ongoing U.S. energy renaissance – natural gas and oil. ...
No problem. When it comes to hydraulic fracturing and horizontal drilling – the twinned processes that have unlocked America’s shale energy wealth – facts aren’t in short supply.

With the proviso that we’re still evaluating proposed new federal standards for offshore oil and natural gas production systems announced last week, the incorporation of a number of industry standards in the proposal is encouraging.
The 149-page proposal from the Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement (BSEE) would update standards that haven’t been changed much since they were first published in 1988.
