The lawsuit filed by Hornbeck Offshore Services Inc. against the administration's moratorium is headed back into court. U.S. District Court Judge Martin Feldman, who granted a stay against the first deepwater drilling ban calling it "arbitrary and capricious," will hear the government's arguments in support of the moratorium today.

About one-quarter of U.S. oil production and nearly 10 percent of natural gas production in the Gulf of Mexico has been shut-in due to Hurricane Alex, the first June hurricane to develop in the Atlantic region since 1995.

Oil Daily is reporting today that Interior Sec. Ken Salazar has lifted the moratorium on Gulf of Mexico exploration and production in shallow water.
