As a student at Stanford, Aya planned to become a professor specializing in earthquake research. But midway through her doctoral program she switched to geophysics, laying the foundation for a career in the oil and natural gas industry. Today she works for Shell:

“I decided that most of the world’s problems are related to energy, and that I could have a direct impact on it. … I feel like every day I’m contributing to bringing everybody a safe source of energy, a reliable source of energy.”

Mark Green joined API after a career in newspaper journalism, including 16 years as national editorial writer for The Oklahoman in the paper’s Washington bureau. Mark also was a reporter, copy editor and sports editor. He earned his journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma and master’s in journalism and public affairs from American University. He and his wife Pamela live in Occoquan, Va., where they enjoy their four grandchildren.
