American Energy Works: Dustin

When Dustin was nearing the end of his college career at Western Michigan, he had a leg up on a number of his classmates: He had a job waiting for him – thanks in part to the oil and natural gas industry. Today he’s an engineer with CB&I, a global engineering, procurement and construction firm that offers services to the energy and natural resources industries. He says the benefits package and moving to the Houston area were attractive, but mostly it was the promise of a job:

“I had a job before I graduated…It was a good feeling knowing the (job) security was there when I finished my degree.”

In this economy, the oil and natural gas industry – and associated businesses and industries it supports – is a bright light. The industry is growing, and it’s hiring – looking for the next generation of young professionals and potential leaders, like Dustin, to take it into the future. Mark Green joined API after a career in newspaper journalism, including 16 years as national editorial writer for The Oklahoman in the paper’s Washington bureau. Mark also was a reporter, copy editor and sports editor. He earned his journalism degree from the University of Oklahoma and master’s in journalism and public affairs from American University. He and his wife Pamela live in Occoquan, Va., where they enjoy their four grandchildren.
